A tea seller popularly known as Mai shai and a customer have been killed by a thunder strike in Kwara State.
The incident reportedly occurred during a heavy downpour at Onigbegiri Junction, Eyenkorin in Asa Local Government Area of the state.
An eyewitness, Mojeed Onigbegiri, said “the victims died instantly when the thunder struck around 6.30pm on Thursday.”
Confirming the tragic incident, Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, on Friday revealed that “the body of the tea seller has been released to the family for burial while the family of the other victim said they need to perform some rites before they bury him.”
Crux News recalls that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, had last week named Kwara among states that would experience intermittent rainfall
and thunderstorms in August 2023.
