Miracle Ogbonna, a 15-year-old girl, was reportedly electrocuted while fetching water in the Olomore Housing Estate area of Abeokuta, Ogun.
In a statement released in Abeokuta on Monday, SP Omolola Odutola, the state’s police command spokesperson, acknowledged the event and said it occurred on Sunday.
According to Odutola, Onyekachi Silas of the Olomore Housing Estate reported an electrocution case to the Divisional Police Office (DPO) in Lafenwa.
Silas told the DPO that on Sunday at approximately 11:50 p.m., his younger brother, Miracle Ogbonna, 15, who also happens to be the brother’s wife’s younger sister and lives with them, had been electrocuted.
He added, “Ogbonna went to the well to get water when there was a power outage in the house.
“Ogbonna was tragically electrocuted by a naked cable wire of the pumping machine placed inside the well while retrieving water when power was restored.”
“The attending physician at a private hospital verified her demise after she was taken there,” Odutola stated.
The deceased was placed in the Oke Lantoro morgue, and the police spokeswoman clarified that an investigation had been launched.
