New Leadership at Nigerian Correctional Service
President Bola Tinubu has named Nwakuche Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, effective from December 15, 2024. This appointment comes in the wake of the conclusion of Haliru Nababa’s term as Controller-General.

The appointment was officially disclosed by Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board, through a statement issued on Friday. The transition of leadership marks a new chapter for the organization, aiming to continue its mission under new guidance.
Profile of the New Acting Controller-General
Nwakuche Ndidi, born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Deputy Controller-General responsible for the Training and Staff Development Directorate. Ndidi is also recognized for his academic achievements, being a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, and he has been honored with the national award of Member of the Federal Republic.

The outgoing Controller-General, Haliru Nababa, served since his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021. Nababa’s tenure included significant roles in various custodial centers across Nigeria, showcasing a career dedicated to the improvement and management of correctional facilities. His service in positions such as Officer in-Charge at multiple satellite and central custodial centers reflects a broad understanding of the service’s operational challenges and needs.
