Brig.-Gen. Olusola Diya officially assumed office as the Commander of the Headquarters 14 Brigade Nigerian Army in Ohafia, Abia, on Monday.
He took over from Brig.-Gen. Nsikak Edet, who is proceeding to the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Before his appointment, Diya served as the Director of Training at the Department of Training, Nigerian Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Interacting with journalists after the taking-over ceremony, the new commander promised to improve on the achievements of his predecessor.
Diya charged the soldiers to key into the command’s philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
The COAS philosophy is to have trained, equipped, and highly motivated soldiers, who are ready to discharge their duties with enthusiasm and dedication to the nation.
He said his command would have a pool of security agencies to work in synergy, emphasizing that without information and intelligence, there is little that he can do.
He further added that the command under his watch would indulge the community and people of Abia to cooperate with the military and other security agencies to work together as a family.
He believes that by doing this, Abia will be a model state for other states to emulate.
During the ceremony, Edet thanked the soldiers for their cooperation and diligence in duty.
He also enjoined them to extend the same level of cooperation to his successor.
He acknowledged the remarkable changes in terms of soldiers’ welfare and other areas since he took over as the Brigade Commander about six months ago.
The event featured the inspection of the quarter guard and the handing over of the commander’s flag, amongst other high points.
It is hoped that Brig.-Gen. Olusola Diya will continue to build on the successes of his predecessor and lead the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army to greater heights.
