The FRSC says its anti-traffic operations against trailers full of passengers and goods will continue to be carried out across the nation until the situation has been brought under control.
Speaking at a mega rally in Abuja on Saturday, the FRSC chief, represented by its deputy marshal in charge of operations, urged transport unions to join forces with the FRSC to bring order to the highways.
“We have made a lot of arrests since the start of the joint inter-agency task force operations, and we will continue to do so until the number of road traffic accidents is reduced to a minimum,” he said.
He also said that the FRSC is working with the Nigerian Bar Association and the state juries to bring those responsible for the incidents to book.
At the mega rally, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sector Commander, Mr. Muta’a Chorrrie, called on passengers to avoid getting into overloaded vehicles and to report any acts of indiscipline on the part of drivers. He said that the event was intended to teach drivers and passengers about the dangers of using their phones while driving, speeding, indiscipline, and drunk driving.
Alhaji Umar Abubakar, FCT Representative Director of Nigerian Relationship of Street Transport Proprietors, said they had suspended at the very least 10 individuals for over-burdening and other traffic offenses over the most recent three months. He vowed the affiliation’s help in making streets more secure for monetary exercises in the country. The delegates of the Nigeria Police Power, Common Safeguard and other security organizations vowed to help the FRSC during the Extraordinary Sallah activity.
The JTF laid out by the corps marshal had secured 35 trailers conveying 982 travelers between Walk 23 and Walk 30. Out of the number, 19 of the trailers conveying 810 travelers with merchandise were captured on Abuja-Kaduna freeway, and 16 trailers conveying 172 travelers on Bauchi-Maiduguri parkway.
