Governor Babagana Zulum has requested an additional N61 billion from the Borno State House of Assembly to amend the 2024 Appropriation Act, bringing the total budget to N419.7 billion.
This follows the devastating floods that hit the state on September 10, impacting nearly two million people and severely damaging critical infrastructure across Maiduguri and surrounding LGAs.
The request, which was read by the Speaker of the House, Abdulkarim Lawan, outlines the need for supplementary funds to reconstruct damaged infrastructure, including bridges, roads, and hospitals. The additional budget will also cover emergency relief, humanitarian aid, support for farmers, and environmental management.
Governor Zulum conducted an on-site assessment of the affected areas and described the scale of damage as massive.
The State Assembly extended its condolences to the flood victims and commended various organisations and agencies for their ongoing support to those affected.
