Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the United Nations on Tuesday, insisting that Russia can only be compelled into a peace agreement, firmly rejecting any negotiations on Moscow’s terms to end the ongoing war. Speaking during a special UN Security Council session, which included a representative from Russia, Zelensky criticized those advocating dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling such attempts “insanity.”
Zelensky, dressed in his usual military fatigues, stressed that peace must be forced upon Russia, not negotiated under conditions favorable to Moscow. He further stated that any resolution must be based on the principles of the UN Charter, which enshrine the sovereignty of member states, including Ukraine.
During the session, Zelensky also condemned Iran and North Korea for their alleged military support to Russia, aligning with the United States in pressuring both nations. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken accused Tehran and Pyongyang of aiding Russia’s war efforts, with advanced weaponry contributing to the suffering in Ukraine. Zelensky remarked that these countries have become “de facto accomplices” in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Zelensky’s remarks come just ahead of a meeting with US President Joe Biden, where he plans to present his “victory plan” for Ukraine. He also promised to host a second “peace summit” and indicated that both China and India would be invited, despite their neutrality regarding Western sanctions on Russia.

Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged for diplomatic resolutions, emphasizing the need for dialogue over extended conflict. However, Blinken countered, accusing China of indirectly supporting Russia by exporting items that enhance its military capabilities. Despite these differences, both parties agreed that the international community must act decisively against the war, particularly in light of the external support Russia is receiving from Iran and North Korea.
Zelensky concluded his address by asserting that the end of Russia’s invasion will come not from negotiations, but from the upholding of international law, with the UN Charter playing a pivotal role in securing Ukraine’s sovereignty.
