Aisha Maikudi, a 41-year-old Professor of Law, has officially assumed her role as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja following her appointment last Thursday. On Monday, the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, handed over the university’s leadership to Maikudi.
In his farewell speech, Na’Allah expressed his gratitude for the strong team he worked with and voiced confidence in the institution’s future progress. He pledged ongoing support for the university. Maikudi recognized as the youngest professor of law in Nigeria, previously served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics.
Maikudi’s appointment was confirmed during the valedictory Senate meeting on Wednesday, as stated by the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah. She will serve as the acting Vice-Chancellor until the Governing Council ratifies her position.

Born on January 31, 1983, Maikudi’s academic journey began at Queens College, Lagos, where she earned her West African Senior School Certificate. She then obtained an LLB from the University of Reading in 2004, followed by an LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 2005. In 2015, she completed her PhD in International Law at the University of Abuja.
Maikudi joined the University of Abuja as Lecturer II on September 4, 2008, and achieved the rank of Professor in 2022. Her notable roles include being the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.
