Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell made his debut in the World Championships and represented his country as the sole participant in the men’s shot put category.
Despite being the only one from his country, he managed to book a spot in the final event of the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships on Saturday.
Being the first Jamaican to surpass the 22m mark in this event, Campbell secured his place in the finals by recording a throw of 20.83m in his third and final attempt, ranking sixth in Group A’s qualifications.

Competing in Group A of the qualifying round, Campbell faced challenges and had to overcome them to make it to the finals. Initially, he struggled to gain momentum and only managed to throw 19.83m on his first attempt.
Furthermore, he recorded no mark on his second attempt, which put him under pressure. However, Campbell’s breakthrough came when he threw 20.83m in his third attempt, which was enough to secure his place in the finals.
He ranked 10th across both groups and will be competing against some of the world’s best shot putters.
