Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw’s Father’s Day message.
Kate Henshaw faced significant backlash after posting a Bible verse and extending Father’s Day wishes specifically to “responsible” fathers. In her message, she quoted Proverbs 23:24 from the Amplified Bible:
“The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, and he who sires a wise child will have joy in him. Happy Father’s Day to all the responsible fathers here. God’s strength, favour, and blessings will continue to abound.”

Critics were quick to point out that Henshaw’s use of the word “responsible” was a departure from her Mother’s Day message, which did not include any such qualifier. This discrepancy sparked mixed reactions online.
Daddy Freeze responded to the uproar in the comment section of a blog post. He acknowledged Henshaw’s point about the importance of responsibility in fatherhood but also highlighted that many men are unable to fulfil this role due to financial, health, and other circumstances beyond their control. He emphasized that these men should not be blamed for their situations.
Additionally, Daddy Freeze argued that women could also contribute to men’s inability to be responsible fathers. He explained that men who are psychologically, emotionally, or financially damaged by their partners cannot be expected to fulfil their fatherly duties effectively.
He wrote,
“Kate is right; as a father, you need to be responsible. However, there are good men out there who can’t afford to be responsible due to financial, health, or other reasons, so it’s not their fault. Many women are also the reason why some men are irresponsible. If you destroy a man psychologically, emotionally, and financially, you can’t expect magic, can you?”
