The Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has confiscated 50 dilapidated commercial buses, commonly known as “danfo,” from the state’s roads.
Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, shared images of the buses on his social media handle on Thursday.
“The VIS carried out an extensive enforcement operation on Wednesday, targeting vehicles not fit for the road throughout the state,” he stated.
The operation focused on over 50 commercial vehicles that did not meet the minimum roadworthiness standards, including brakes, wipers, lights, shocks, and tires, as required by the State’s Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
The enforcement covered areas such as Costain, Ikorodu Road, Ojuelegba, Yaba, Oyingbo, Ikeja, and Ojodu Berger.
Gawat also mentioned that some commercial drivers resisted arrest and, in their obstinacy, damaged VIS patrol vans.
Engr. Fashola, the VIO Chief, emphasized that the VIS remains dedicated to fair and impartial enforcement activities and urged all vehicle owners and operators to regularly maintain their vehicles and comply with roadworthiness standards for the safety of all road users.
