The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2024 results for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) but withheld the results of 215,267 candidates due to examination malpractice.
In an announcement on Monday, August 12, 2024, WAEC informed candidates that they could access their results via the official website, https://waecdirect.org.
Addressing the press in Lagos, Amos Dangut, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, revealed that out of the 1,805,216 candidates who took the examination, 1,685,889 (93.39%) had their results fully processed and released. However, 119,327 candidates (6.61%) had some of their subjects still being processed due to unresolved issues.
Regarding performance, Dangut shared those 1,332,089 candidates, representing 73.79%, achieved credit or higher in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

However, the council withheld the results of 215,267 candidates, representing 11.92% of the total number of candidates, due to various reported cases of examination malpractice. This figure is a 4.37% improvement from the 16.29% recorded in the 2023 WASSCE for school candidates.
WAEC continues to stress the importance of integrity in examinations and is committed to resolving issues related to malpractice to uphold the credibility of the certification.
