Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, has been released from police custody after meeting bail conditions. This comes after a dramatic arrest for allegedly refusing to pay the remaining balance on a luxury car.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Portable’s release to reporters on Wednesday evening. When asked directly if Portable’s release was contingent on meeting bail, Hundeyin simply stated, “He’s been granted bail.”
Earlier that day, Hundeyin responded to inquiries about Portable potentially spending another night in custody due to unmet bail conditions. He stated, “He has presented no reliable surety yet, so he (Portable) is still with us.”
Two viral videos captured the dramatic scene of Portable’s arrest. In one, the singer makes a clear attempt to evade capture by fleeing the scene. Police officers are seen giving chase and eventually apprehending him, pinning him down in the process.
The second video shows a different perspective, with Portable seemingly resisting arrest by four officers who ultimately carry him and deposit him into a police vehicle. These video clips have sparked a range of reactions online.
Some viewers condemn Portable’s apparent resistance to arrest. Others criticize him for jeopardizing his public image by failing to settle the N14 million debt on the G-Wagon he purchased.
