The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, recently attended a traditional wedding ceremony in Jos, Plateau State, where he urged the residents of both states to co-exist peacefully and sustain their unity in diversity. Jatau emphasized the importance of embracing inter-state, religious, and tribal marriages as a way to enhance unity and peace between Nasarawa and Plateau.
During the wedding ceremony, which was held for his sister’s son, Danjuma Lawal, the speaker reiterated the need for peaceful coexistence between the two states, given that Nasarawa was carved out of Plateau. Jatau, who is like a father to Danjuma, a Muslim, paid the bride price on behalf of his father, further highlighting the importance of embracing diversity and promoting peaceful coexistence.
Jatau further stressed that when the people of Nasarawa and Plateau coexist peacefully, it would go a long way in bringing more peace, unity, and speedy development to the two states. He also called on the people of Plateau to sustain peace and unity among themselves to ensure permanent peace.
In addition, the speaker urged members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to use the Ramadan recess to interface with the people of their constituencies. This, according to Jatau, would enable them to know the challenges of their people and provide solutions to them.
Furthermore, Jatau called on well-to-do individuals in society to assist the less privileged ones before, during, and after Ramadan. He enjoined Muslims to use the fasting period to pray about the numerous challenges facing the country and seek God’s intervention.
Finally, the speaker called on the people of the state to continue to be law-abiding, respect constituted authorities, live in peace, and tolerate one another, irrespective of their affiliations.
