The Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Michael Langley, recently met with Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, joined Langley on the visit.
In an official statement, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, noted that Langley commended Nigeria’s strategic leadership in tackling insecurity, praising its regional role and the Defence Headquarters’ efforts. Langley also congratulated General Musa on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Committee of ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff.

During the discussions, General Musa highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to collaborating with other nations in West Africa to eradicate terrorism. He also emphasized the need for continued U.S. support, particularly in the areas of training, intelligence-sharing, and access to advanced military equipment.
The visit underlines a strengthening relationship between the U.S. and Nigeria in addressing security challenges in West Africa.
