Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are set to face a prolonged period without electricity, beginning next Monday.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) made this announcement through a post on its X account on Friday, highlighting the upcoming disruptions.
Reason for Outages
The outages are scheduled to facilitate the relocation of significant power infrastructure. Specifically, the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers are being moved along the Outer Southern Expressway. This project, undertaken by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), will take place from January 6 to January 31, 2025.
Details of the Interruption
AEDC stated, “Please be informed that there will be power interruptions from January 6-21, 2025, due to FCDA relocating the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway.”
Areas Affected
The power cuts will impact several areas including:
- Lugbe and surrounding regions
- Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC
- Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex
- Christ Embassy Church, American International School, Spring Court
- American Embassy Quarters, EFCC Headquarters, Coca-Cola, Railway, Federal Medical Centre (FMC)
- Parts of Apo, Gudu, Gbazango and their environs
- Sections of Kubwa, Bwari, Jahi, Jabi
- Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi and other areas within Abuja
This widespread impact will require residents to prepare for significant adjustments in their daily routines and potentially secure alternative power sources during this period.
