Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who is poised to return to the White House, announced on Saturday that he will not be re-appointing two prominent figures from his previous administration: former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. The decision, disclosed on his Truth Social platform, ends speculation over whether the two high-profile Republicans would play a role in Trump’s new administration.
Pompeo, who had advocated a robust approach to Ukraine involving increased military support and sanctions against Russia, holds views that are seemingly at odds with Trump’s campaign stance on the conflict. Trump has repeatedly promised that he could negotiate an end to the war within 24 hours and has voiced skepticism over the level of U.S. aid to Ukraine.

Nikki Haley, who challenged Trump in this year’s Republican primary before endorsing him, has also had moments of contention with him. In August, she publicly urged him to “quit whining” over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite the differences, Trump expressed gratitude for their past service.
In his first cabinet appointment, Trump named his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, as his White House chief of staff, making her the first woman to hold this essential gatekeeping role in his administration. Wiles, known for her calm demeanor, has earned the nickname “Ice Baby” from Trump for her unflappable temperament.
