Troops of Operation Hadarin Daji on Friday rescued nine kidnapped victims in the Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Channels TV reports that the troops, while carrying out routine patrol and providing protection for farmers in their farmlands, acted on a distress call on armed bandits at Mailere village under Gwashi district in the Bukuyyum area.
A top military source who preferred anonymity said the troops mobilised swiftly to the scene of the incident and contact was made with the armed bandits at the entrance of the community.
However, the troops engaged the armed bandits with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon the nine abductees.
The victims were said to have been successfully reunited with their families.
Bandits had on Monday night killed four policemen serving under Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State were reportedly killed by armed bandits on Monday night.
The officers were said to have mounted a checkpoint along Bungudu-Gusau Road when their assailants ambushed and opened fire on them.
The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the latest attack on Tuesday morning.
Abubakar however could not confirm if any policeman was killed during the attack but promised to provide more information later.

A resident of Bungudu town, Ibrahim Bungudu, told the medium that four of the policemen were killed during the attack.
He said the rampaging bandits also shot one person at Tagero village under the Furfuri district of Bungudu Local Government Area (LGA).
Bungudu added that several cattle belonging to residents of Tagero village were also rustled by the bandits.
