President Bola Tinubu is set to deliver a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 7:00 AM to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary. This announcement was made in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
The address will be broadcast on national television and radio, with media outlets advised to connect to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for coverage.
In celebration of Independence Day, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has declared October 1st a public holiday. Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to Nigerians worldwide, commending the nation’s hardworking citizens and urging reflection on the sacrifices of past heroes. He emphasized that unity is key to building the Nigeria of our dreams.

In preparation for the celebrations, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has ordered heightened security across the country. The IGP directed the deployment of both human and tactical resources to ensure a secure and peaceful Independence Day. The police will work in conjunction with other security agencies to safeguard event venues and major highways, preventing any threats to lives and property.
The IGP also emphasized the importance of police officers maintaining professionalism and courtesy during their interactions with the public. He reiterated the police force’s commitment to safeguarding national security and upholding the rule of law, encouraging Nigerians to unite in fostering peace and national pride during this significant moment in the country’s history.
