President Bola Tinubu has postponed this week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting to an undisclosed date, opting instead to convene an urgent session with the nation’s service chiefs.
The high-level meeting will include the vice president, the national security adviser, all service chiefs, the inspector general of police, the comptroller generals of customs and immigration, and the president’s chief of staff.
Sources, speaking anonymously to Channels Television, suggest that this urgent meeting with security chiefs is likely related to the ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and hardship. The #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, now in their fifth day, have seen significant participation, primarily from Nigerian youths.
President Tinubu, in a statement on Sunday, called for dialogue and an immediate cessation of the protests that have gripped the nation since Thursday.

He assured the public that his administration is committed to listening to and addressing the concerns of the protesters, emphasizing that their demands have been heard “loud and clear.”
Despite this appeal, demonstrations have continued in major cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano. Protesters remain steadfast in their calls for significant governmental reforms and measures to alleviate the widespread economic hardship affecting many Nigerians.
