In a gesture of respect following the sudden passing of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, President Bola Tinubu has rescheduled the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting initially set for today. The meeting will be held at a later date, which will be announced soon, as confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The Presidency had earlier disclosed that General Lagbaja, who was serving as the nation’s 27th Chief of Army Staff, passed away on Tuesday night. In honour of his legacy, President Tinubu has directed that flag be flown at half-staff across the nation for the next seven days. Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, lauding the late general’s significant contributions to national security.

Lt. General Lagbaja’s military journey began at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1987, where he joined the 39th Regular Course. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Nigerian Infantry Corps in 1992 and went on to hold various leadership roles, including platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion. Throughout his career, Lagbaja was a central figure in numerous internal security operations across Nigeria, contributing to campaigns like Operation ZAKI in Benue, Lafiya Dole in Borno, Udoka in the Southeast, and Forest Sanity in Kaduna and Niger States.
