President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presided over the inauguration of the newly constituted 15-member National Stakeholders Working Group, also known as the Governing Board of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
Represented by Senator George Akume, who also chairs the new NEITI board, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency and prudent resource management in Nigeria’s extractive sector.
He emphasized the critical role of accurate data management in the oil and gas industry and underscored the administration’s dedication to the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and NEITI’s contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Tinubu cautioned the board against interfering in NEITI’s day-to-day operations, reminding members that their appointments are part-time. He urged them to focus on their roles and responsibilities and refrain from involvement in management affairs.
The President emphasized the importance of maintaining clear boundaries between governance and operational functions, advising the board to conduct themselves accordingly.
