President Bola Tinubu has nominated three individuals to fill existing vacancies on the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) board. The announcement came via a formal letter addressed to the Senate President, accompanied by a statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The nominees include Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle from Oyo State, Kennedy Ikpeme from Cross River State, and retired Federal High Court Judge Justice Ibrahim Buba. The appointments aim to enhance the bureau’s oversight and governance mechanisms.
Established in 1979, the CCB plays a vital role in upholding ethical standards and integrity within Nigeria’s public service. Its 10-member board, chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Usman Bello since October 2024, includes notable figures such as Barr. Muritala Aliyu Kankia, Hon. E.J. Agbomayinma, Barr. Ben Umeano, Prof. Juwayriyya Badamasiuy, Bulus I. Zephaniah, and Hon. Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale.
This development follows ongoing legislative actions surrounding the removal of Umar Danladi, the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), over allegations of corruption and misconduct.

Last week, the Senate and House of Representatives invoked constitutional provisions to recommend Danladi’s removal. However, the Senate admitted an error in citing the incorrect legal section. Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele clarified that Section 157 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, initially referenced, does not apply to the CCT chairman. Instead, Section 17 (3) of the Constitution and Section 22 (3) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act 2004 were deemed appropriate.
Both legislative chambers have now concurred, formally advising President Tinubu to remove Danladi. The allegations against him remain significant, reflecting the government’s broader commitment to accountability and ethical governance.
