President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Tunji Olaopa as the Chairman, and eleven others as commissioners in the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).
Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President, Media & Publicity who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said the appointments are subject to the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate.
Ngelale said the 1999 Nigerian Constitution empowers the president to appoint the Chairman and members of the FCSC as one of fourteen Federal Executive Bodies covers by Section 154.
The new commissioners include Dr. Daudu Ibrahim Jalo representing Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba; Ms. Gekpe Grace Isu, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Dr. Chamberlain Nwele as member representing Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu states.
Others are Mr. Rufus N. Godwins – Rivers, Delta and Bayelsa; Dr. Adamu Hussein — Niger and the Federal Capital Territory FCT; Mr. Aminu Nabegu – Jigawa and Kano states and Ms. Hindatu Abdullahi — Kaduna and Katsina states.
The rest are Mr. Shehu Aliyu, member representing Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara; Ms. Odekunle Rukiyat Aduke – Kogi and Kwara states, Mr. Jide Jimoh will represent Lagos and Ogun while Dr. Festus Oyebade will represent Osun and Oyo states on the commission.
“Upon confirmation, the new FCSC leadership is expected to commence work with effect from November 30, 2023, following the expiration of tenure of the current Federal Civil Service Commission Chairman and membership on November 29, 2023,” the statement read.
The President also anticipates that the new FCSC leadership will competently facilitate the transformation, reorientation, and digitization of the Federal Bureaucracy.
This, the statement added, will enable, and not stifle, growth and enhanced private sector participation in the development of the Nigerian economy, in full adherence to the Renewed Hope Agenda of Tinubu’s administration.
