President Bola Tinubu expressed his deep sorrow for the soldiers lost in a recent assault by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.
Details of the Attack
Last Saturday, ISWAP militants executed a pre-dawn raid on the military facility in Sabon Gari, Damboa, employing trucks and motorcycles. The attackers set the base and several military vehicles ablaze, according to anonymous military sources not authorized to comment publicly.
Military Response
In retaliation, fighter jets from Maiduguri, approximately 100 kilometers from the attack site, were deployed, successfully targeting the retreating insurgents.

Through his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu conveyed his condolences to the military leadership for the loss of six brave soldiers on January 4. He has mandated an exhaustive investigation into the incident to glean lessons and prevent future attacks.
