President Bola Tinubu has awarded the prestigious national honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. The announcement was made during the President’s televised address marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day celebration in Abuja on Tuesday.
In his speech, President Tinubu highlighted the importance of the national honours, acknowledging the significant contributions of the recipients to the nation’s development. He confirmed that the full list of honorees for 2024 would be released soon, while also disclosing that Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, were conferred with the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) titles. Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu, received the honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).
