The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ibaka, Akwa Ibom, has apprehended a suspect allegedly smuggling 15,500 litres of what is believed to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) towards Cameroon.
The FOB Commanding Officer, Captain Uche Aneke, announced the arrest at Ibaka during the transfer of the suspect and the confiscated product to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
Captain Aneke reported that the arrest occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, following an intelligence report that a vessel was transporting suspected contraband through the FOB Ibaka’s area of operation en route to Cameroon.
“We intercepted the boat and found it was carrying 15,500 litres of what we suspect to be PMS, hidden under a tarpaulin. A suspected smuggler found on board was immediately arrested,” he stated.

The commanding officer issued a stern warning against the smuggling of illegal goods into or out of the country, emphasizing the navy’s dedication to combating such activities.
“We are dedicated to detecting any criminal activity within our operational area using advanced surveillance equipment and intelligence.
Criminals are cautioned that Nigeria’s waters and coastal areas are off-limits for illegal activities,” he declared.
Upon receiving the exhibit, Mr. Etefia Koko-Ette, Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit of the NSCDC command in Akwa Ibom, mentioned that further investigations would be conducted on the matter.
