Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, has withdrawn from the Macau Tennis Masters exhibition in China, scheduled for December 2-3.
The reason for her withdrawal is that she is still in recovery mode after undergoing surgery earlier this year.
After undergoing operations on her wrists and ankle, Raducanu had not played any match since April, which has dropped her to 289 in the current WTA rankings.
Initially, Raducanu had hoped to return to the WTA Tour in the autumn, but she later shifted her focus to the Macau Tennis Masters event.
However, the organisers have confirmed that her name is no longer among the players on show due to injury.
Raducanu’s absence from the tour has affected her ranking, but she will be able to use a protected ranking of 103 next year, which could earn her a place in the main draw of the Australian Open in January.
She has not passed the second round of a Grand Slam since her historic victory at Flushing Meadows.
Despite her absence from the tour, Raducanu has been stepping up her training in recent weeks at the National Tennis Centre in London, both in the gym and on the court.
She has spoken of her enthusiasm for returning to the circuit, stating that she missed the sport and the training.
She has been working with Lawn Tennis Association staff since parting ways with Sebastian Sachs in June.
Raducanu’s last match was a straight-sets defeat to Jelena Ostapenko at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart in April, and she remains without a coach.
