Taylor Swift celebrated the start of her London shows with a birthday surprise for Prince William! The Duke of Wales, turning 42 on the day of the concert, took his eldest children, Prince George (10) and Princess Charlotte (9), to see Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour gig at Wembley Stadium.
Kensington Palace shared a delightful photo on their social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), showing the royal trio beaming alongside the singer backstage. “Thank you Taylor Swift for a great evening!” read the caption.
Prince William clearly scored major “dad points” with this birthday treat, especially considering his busy week. He had just returned from Germany where he watched England’s Euro 2024 match the night before.
Swift shared another selfie on her own platform, this time including her boyfriend Travis Kelce in the picture alongside the royals. “Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start,” she wrote.
Videos circulating online captured Prince William letting loose and dancing to Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off,” much to the delight of fans.
While Catherine, Princess of Wales, stayed home with their youngest son, Prince Louis (6), he did appear in an official birthday portrait released earlier on Friday.
This isn’t the first time Prince William and Swift, 34, have crossed paths. They even shared the stage at a Kensington Palace charity event back in 2013, performing “Livin’ On A Prayer” with Jon Bon Jovi.
Swift’s Eras Tour has been a smash hit across the UK, with previous shows in Edinburgh, Liverpool, and Cardiff. The tour takes fans on a nostalgic journey through her musical career, featuring songs from albums like “1989,” “Red,” and “Midnights.”
The Wembley crowd on Friday night was electric, with nearly 90,000 fans packing the stadium. Some dedicated Swifties even started queuing before dawn! This marked the first of eight sold-out shows Swift will perform at Wembley, spread across this week and August.
Celebrity Swifties spotted in the audience included “Bridgerton” star Nicola Coughlan, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, “Queer Eye” star Jonathan Van Ness, model Cara Delevingne, and even Swift’s parents, Andrea and Scott.
With this incredible start, and calling London “the most exhilarating city in the world” (where she once lived), it’s no wonder Swift’s London shows are generating such excitement.
