Contrary to its traditional honour to merely ask former lawmakers submitted to it for screening to just take a bow and leave, the same courtesy was on Monday extended to the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Wike had appeared before the upper legislative chamber on Monday where he introduced himself on the floor and pledged to work for the transformation of the country if confirmed as a Minister.
The Senate then asked the former Rivers governor to take a bow and go even when he was never a parliamentarian.
He was later confirmed by Senate as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following the nomination list sent to it by President Bola Tinubu.
Senator Mpigi Barinada, in supporting the nominee, said he, two other Senators from Rivers and over five million people of Rivers are in support of Wike’s nomination.

The Senator said the former governor is the choice of the people, “he’s our best. He is our example. We three senators and over five million Rivers people are in total support of his nomination.
“I want to urge the Senate to ask him to take a bow and go,” Barinada said.
The Senator agreed that he should take a bow and go when Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the question to voice vote.
The PDP chieftain took a bow and left the hallowed chamber.
