The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Anambra State has reached out to the Anambra Sports Development Commission and the State Football Association (AnSFA) to come to terms with each other and cease the misunderstanding ongoing.
The association has urged both parties to put aside their differences for the sake of sports development in the state.
The dispute arose after AnSFA banned Chijioke Onyedika, a staff member of the Sports Commission, for five years on allegations of anti-football activities.
However, the Sports Commission overruled the ban, arguing that the FA lacked the power to carry out such an action.
The Commission maintained that Onyedika was only carrying out his duties as assigned by the government and did not belong to the board of the AnSFA.
In a statement signed by Chimezie Anaso and Ikenna Nwokedi, the SWAN Anambra Chairman and Secretary respectively, the association expressed its concern over the inflammatory comments made by both parties and their proxies.
The association noted that the face-off between the two bodies was unhealthy for the progress of sports in the state.
SWAN Anambra has offered to mediate between the parties to find an amicable resolution to the issues.
The association also called for an amicable and harmonious administrative environment that would promote the progressive development of sports in the state.
As a critical stakeholder in the Anambra sports sector, SWAN expressed its willingness to work with both parties to ensure that sports development in the state is not hindered by the ongoing feud.
