In a tragic incident on Thursday night, hoodlums believed to be cult members brutally murdered the manager of a hotel in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. The victim, identified as Anthony Balogun, was managing the establishment, which is owned by his mother, before the deadly attack.
The attack occurred around 8:00 p.m. at the hotel located in the Olunlade area of Ilorin. According to reports, two gunmen entered the hotel and requested to see the manager. Unaware of their intentions, Balogun left his room to meet what he assumed were prospective customers at the reception.
Upon encountering him, the assailants lured him outside the reception area and shot him at close range in the chest. They further mutilated him with machetes, inflicting severe wounds on his head, hands, and legs.

The victim’s elder sister recounted the events leading up to the tragedy, explaining that she had spoken with Balogun earlier in the evening. When she tried to return his call around 8:00 p.m., his phone was already switched off. Moments later, she received a call from his wife, urging her to come to the Kwara State General Hospital (now Kwara State University Teaching Hospital), where she found his lifeless body, badly mutilated.
The case has been reported to the Ganmo Divisional Police Station, where it is being treated as a possible homicide. However, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, has yet to confirm the incident, and efforts to reach her for comment have been unsuccessful.
