The Sudanese government has reaffirmed its commitment to finding humanitarian solutions to the ongoing conflict in the country, which has entered its second year. Ahmed Jaboul, Charge d’ Affaires of the Sudan Embassy in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of prioritizing humanitarian solutions to achieve progress.
While the conflict situation remains unchanged, the National Military Forces have halted hostilities in most parts of the country. Jaboul highlighted the need for sustained international support, citing the limited aid received so far (only 10% of commitments).
He expressed concern over rebel forces’ continued invasion of central Sudan and Western Sudan, resulting in innocent casualties and disruption of civilian life. The government remains willing to negotiate a political settlement, as seen in the Jedda talks in 2023. However, rebel forces have failed to adhere to agreements, including vacating civilian areas.
Jaboul appealed to media organizations to promote accurate reporting on the conflict, encouraging humanitarian solutions, sustainable peace, and political settlements. He emphasized the importance of holding rebel forces accountable for their actions and supporting the government’s efforts to address the crisis.
