During a recent visit to the National Stadium Surulere, the Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan-Enoh, expressed his commitment to promoting para-sports and ensuring that athletes with physical and intellectual challenges receive equal attention.
The Minister commended the para-athletes for their selfless contributions towards winning laurels for Nigeria and took the opportunity to inspect various facilities at the stadium, including the National Institute of Sports, the boxing complex, and the sports medical centre.
He also visited the Games Village hostels, Legacy Pitch, Power House, and the courts for different sports.
During his visit, the Minister held a meeting with representatives of the Para-athletes, who expressed their plight and alleged that their sports had been neglected and uncared for despite winning international medals for the country.

They requested that the Ministry provide an estate for the physically challenged and more gym equipment to improve their training.
In response, the Minister promised to look into the matter and provide the necessary interventions.
He acknowledged the para-athletes’ commitment and stated that the Ministry would continue to encourage them.
He lauded the organisers of the Louis Edem International Basketball Championships and expressed his delight at witnessing part of the ongoing game during his tour of the stadium.
The Minister further stressed the importance of individuals and corporate bodies with a passion for sports in promoting sports development.
He praised the President for creating a separate ministry for sports and expressed optimism that the running and progress of sports in Nigeria would remain orderly, peaceful, and conflict-free during his tenure.
