TOE WRESTLING
Today, we’re going to talk about an intriguing and peculiar sport that has earned its place as one of the most unusual sports in the world – Toe Wrestling. The game originated in Staffordshire, United Kingdom, in 1976 when four individuals were enjoying their drinks at the Ye Olde Royal Inn in Welton. The pub was the host of the annual World Championship from 1994 to 2021, and the event was held in Derbyshire, England, every year since 1994.
Alan “Nasty” Nash is the most successful player in the history of the World Toe Wrestling Championship, with multiple championship wins to his name. Lisa “Twinkle Toes” Shenton, a previous world champion, has also made a name for herself in the sport.
Toe wrestling is comparable to arm wrestling in that the competitors use their bare feet to engage in a battle of strength. The players interlock their toes and attempt to push their opponent’s foot down to the ground. In each of the three rounds, players must link toes, and each participant’s foot must touch the other person’s flat on the ground. Rounds are played first with the right foot, followed by the left, and right again if necessary.
So, there you have it – a brief yet detailed introduction to the world of Toe Wrestling. Stay tuned for more exciting updates on SPORTANEOUS.
