The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, is committed to boosting the city’s economy through increased investment in sports.
The royal father made this assurance on Saturday during the maiden edition of the Oba Afolabi Olaoye Golf Tournament in Ogbomoso.
Oba Olaoye arrived at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club, the venue of the tournament, in the company of Prof. Adesola Adepoju, the Chairman of his official coronation’s Central Planning Committee, and some traditional chiefs.
The President of the club, Dr Akin Oladeji, and the Captain of the club, Mr Pekun Olaleye, among others, welcomed the royal father and his entourage.
The traditional ruler and his entourage were taken around the club’s exhibition ground before the monarch commissioned the Ogbomoso Recreation Club’s Golf Section.
Oba Olaoye praised the initiatives of the Ogbomoso Recreation Club and expressed his delight at the club’s level of transformation, promising to invest more in sports.

“We will make this an annual event to attract golfers from all over the world to Ogbomoso and to have a great impact on the town’s economy,” he said.
After the inauguration, Dr Oladeji addressed journalists and stated that the tournament was organized to commemorate the historical coronation of Oba Olaoye.
He also expressed the club’s readiness to work with the traditional ruler to make Ogbomoso a hub of sports tourism, with the golf tournament as a significant attraction that would draw people to the town.
More than 150 golfers from across the country attended the tournament.
The event was a huge success, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the economy of Ogbomoso.
