Leona Maguire, the Irish golfer who excelled in her debut Solheim Cup appearance in 2021, is hoping to help Team Europe make history once again at the tournament’s latest edition in Spain.
Maguire, who won 4.5 points and remained unbeaten in 2021, has since won twice on the LPGA Tour and is currently ranked within the world’s top 20 golfers.
Despite her impressive track record, Maguire remains grounded and cautious about the upcoming event, which will see Team Europe attempt to secure a third consecutive victory over Team USA for the first time in Solheim Cup history.
At a recent pre-tournament press conference, Maguire emphasized the importance of approaching the event with an open mind.
She acknowledged that the tournament is taking place at a new venue, and both teams have new players.
Maguire also praised the US team’s youthful energy and expressed her admiration for their talent.
Nevertheless, she remains focused on doing her best to contribute to her team’s success, without putting undue pressure on herself.

Maguire’s fellow golfer, Celine Boutier, also expressed excitement about the prospect of playing alongside Maguire during the tournament.

Team Europe’s captain, Suzann Pettersen, expressed confidence in her team’s abilities and noted that the players were aware of the potential pairings for the opening day of the tournament.
Pettersen emphasized the importance of transparency and communication, stating that she wanted her players to take ownership of their roles and responsibilities.
With eight of the winning side from two years ago returning, and Caroline Hedwall joining the team, Pettersen faces the challenge of selecting a strong line-up from a deep pool of talented golfers.
However, she remains optimistic about her team’s chances and believes that the tournament will showcase the strength of European women’s golf.
