Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was set to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, has had to change his plans due to unforeseen circumstances.
Shettima was slated to meet with other political and business leaders from Africa, the United States, and beyond at the summit, which is known for its high-level dialogues, networking opportunities, and plenary sessions.
The event is scheduled from May 6 to May 9, 2024.
A statement from Stanley Nkwocha, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, on Monday disclosed that a technical issue with the Vice President’s aircraft necessitated the alteration in the itinerary.
Nkwocha stated that the Vice President followed the guidance of the Presidential Air Fleet’s management team.
As a result, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will take President Bola Tinubu’s place at the Summit.
“The Vice President will proceed with other national responsibilities,” the statement concluded.
The prominent summit, taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, is expected to gather political and business figures from across Africa, the United States, and other areas, featuring high-level dialogues, networking sessions, and plenary discussions.

Expected African leaders include President Joseph Boakai of Liberia, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, President Joao Lourenço of Angola, President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana, President José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho.
The US-Africa Business Summit aims to enhance economic collaboration and investigate investment possibilities between the United States and African nations.
