A tragic incident occurred in Plateau State when a secondary school building collapsed, resulting in the death of at least 12 people and injuring dozens more.
The disaster struck on Friday morning at Saints Academy in Busa Buji, Jos North, disrupting the activities in the area.
The two-story building of the school caved in on students and their teachers, trapping over 70 pupils, according to witnesses.
The once peaceful educational environment quickly turned into a scene of chaos as residents rushed to the site to offer assistance. Amidst the screams for help, they were joined by emergency workers who worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped beneath the rubble.
So far, 12 bodies have been recovered from the debris, and many injured individuals have been transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Some of the injured are in critical condition, requiring immediate blood transfusions.

A report from Channels TV indicates that 26 people are currently receiving treatment at Our Lady of Apostles Hospital, where some of the victims were taken.
Four bodies have also been moved to the hospital’s mortuary. Meanwhile, Bingham Hospital is providing medical care for 16 injured individuals and has received seven bodies. The Plateau Specialist Hospital is treating 34 injured persons, including two with spinal cord injuries.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with the scene filled with the sounds of ambulance sirens and the cries of desperate parents eager to learn the fate of their children. The Joint Security Task Force Operation Safe Haven has mobilized five vans and thirty soldiers to assist in the rescue efforts.
Emergency workers, supported by volunteers, security personnel, and members of the Red Cross, are using excavators to search for and rescue any remaining pupils and teachers trapped under the rubble. The exact number of casualties is still being determined as the rescue operations continue.
