The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged N100,000 to each member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.
Sanwo-Olu made this commitment as a special guest of honour at the NYSC Passing-Out Parade and Closing Ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja on Tuesday.
According to the governor, the sum of N100,000 for each NYSC member passing out today will be delivered next week directly into their accounts.
In addition to this financial pledge, he promised automatic employment in the Lagos Public Service for the best 100 Corpers after the service year (for 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream I only).

Sanwo-Olu also committed N5 billion for the construction of a permanent site for the NYSC Orientation Camp in the state. Additionally, he announced N100 million for the Scheme’s support staff and donated a 32-seater Hyundai bus.
The NYSC, a mandatory post-tertiary scheme established by the Nigerian government during the military regime of Head of State Yakubu Gowon, aims to “reconstruct, reconcile, and rebuild the country” after the Nigerian Civil War.
Currently, NYSC members receive a monthly allowance of N33,000, which is usually adjusted following increases in the national minimum wage.
