The CRUX NEWS reports that the Russia is facing a major flooding crisis after heavy snowmelt caused rivers to overflow their banks. The situation is particularly critical in the Orenburg and Kurgan regions, where authorities are urging residents to evacuate.
In Orenburg city, the Ural River has reached a record high level of 11.83 meters (39 feet). Thousands of residents received urgent evacuation orders on Friday as floodwaters rose rapidly.
Orenburg Governor Denis Pasler acknowledged the ongoing challenges on Telegram, stating that “the flood peak is still ahead” in some areas.
The Kurgan region is also experiencing a rise in water levels. Governor Vadim Shumkov issued an evacuation call on Telegram for residents near the settlement of Baraba, as floodwaters from the Tobol River threaten the area.
Shumkov warned that the deluge could reach Kurgan city itself in the coming days, with the Tobol River potentially reaching alarming levels between 9 and 11 meters.
