Luis Rubiales, the former chief of Spanish soccer, is set to appear before the High Court in Madrid on Friday to testify regarding an alleged unsolicited kiss on the lips of World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso.
The incident occurred during the medal ceremony following the Spanish women’s team’s World Cup victory in Sydney, Australia last month. This caused a significant backlash, with many people denouncing sexism and macho behaviour in Spain.
Despite demands from players, sports bodies, and politicians, Rubiales had refused to resign from his position as president of the Royal Spanish Football, insisting that the kiss was mutual and consensual.
However, the controversy did not subside, and on Sunday, he ultimately resigned after Hermoso lodged a criminal complaint against him.

The complaint filed by Hermoso alleges that Rubiales kissed her on the mouth without her consent while holding her head with both hands after Spain defeated England in the women’s World Cup final on August 20th.
The incident took place in front of a global television audience, adding to the gravity of the matter.
The High Court judge Francisco de Jorge is leading the investigation as the incident occurred outside of Spain.
Despite numerous questions posed by Reuters, Rubiales has yet to respond to the allegations.
