The Rivers State government has officially dismissed a circulating social media claim that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the closure of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil companies within the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the government labeled the report as “false” and “propaganda,” insisting that it was fabricated by unnamed individuals aiming to discredit the state.

The statement emphasized Governor Fubara’s commitment to lawful governance, rejecting the notion of using “unconventional and crude approaches” in managing state affairs. It further urged River’s residents and Nigerians to disregard the “spurious and fake report,” clarifying that the governor has neither considered nor ordered such economic disruption.
This clarification seeks to quell any concerns over the state’s economic stability, particularly in light of the state’s reliance on oil-related activities.
