During the signing ceremony on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Governor Fubara extended his gratitude to the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led State Assembly for their diligent work in passing the bill.

Fubara asserted that the only recognized legislative body in Rivers State is the one under the leadership of Victor Oko-Jumbo. This statement came amidst signing the appropriation bill into law, which was passed just a week after its submission to the Oko-Jumbo-led assembly.

The governor made it clear that 27 members, including Martins Amaewhule, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), are no longer recognized as state legislators. These members, aligned with former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have found themselves at odds with Fubara’s administration. Despite their attempts to reverse their defection, Fubara has declared their disqualification as final.
