Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the immediate promotion of teachers in all senior secondary schools within the state.
This announcement was made during the inauguration of the Chairmen and four members each for the Senior Secondary Schools and Universal Basic Education Boards at the government house in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Governor Fubara explained that the promotion exercise in the senior cadre had been suspended because it was previously overseen by an Acting Director.
He felt that such a delicate task should be handled by a more substantive board, which is now headed by educationist Dr. Sam Umejuru.
The governor emphasized his commitment to enhancing the education sector, stating that education, healthcare, and agriculture would be his top priorities in the 2025 budget.
He charged Dr. Sam Umejuru and the newly inaugurated board members with the task of efficiently managing the promotion exercise and improving the standard of education in the state.
In his address to the Universal Basic Education Board, Governor Fubara tasked the new Chairman, David Briggs, with maintaining and improving upon the standards set by the previous board. He stressed the importance of a solid educational foundation at the UBE levels for a child’s academic excellence.
Governor Fubara expressed confidence in the abilities of the appointees, noting their extensive experience in public and civil service. Many of the new board members are seasoned educationists and administrators who have previously served as principals and vice-principals.
