There is no hiding place for killers of Bako Amgbashim, a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) as the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara expressed commitment to apprehend his assailants either dead or alive.
Governor Fubara made the vow on Sunday shortly after hosting an emergency State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
He declared that his administration will not allow Rivers State to become a safe haven for criminals.
“We honestly feel very sad over this. But as a government, we sympathise with the Nigerian Police Force, especially the family of Officer Bako.
“We will not rest until whoever is responsible for this act is brought to book.
“We have shown our commitment in this particular issue by placing a bounty on the criminal and also suspending the traditional ruler in that locality.
“We are doing everything on our part to make sure that we look at this matter and get to the end of it. We must get him dead or alive because we have to make a statement. Rivers State has never and will never be a home to criminality,” the governor said.
He further expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies in the state to get to the root of the crime and arrest all perpetrators involved.
Amgbashim, a Superintendent of Police, reputed for his bravery, was brutally murdered by suspected cultists on Friday night while leading a security team in an operation in Odiemudie community in the Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Crux News recalls that Governor Fubara had while reacting to the murder on Saturday vowed not to yield the state to criminality while declaring the suspected arrowhead of the gang and his team wanted.
“As a responsible government, we cannot fold our arms and allow criminals and crimes to rear their ugly heads and thrive in any part of our state.
“First, the prime suspects, Mr. Gift David Okpara Okpolowu (a.k.a. 2-Baba) and all members of his criminal gang are hereby declared wanted.
“Secondly, a bounty of one hundred million (N100,000,000.00) naira is hereby placed on his head for anyone who gives useful information that would lead to his arrest and prosecution,” he stated.
