Rayo Vallecano, a Spanish football club, has announced the termination of Francisco Rodriguez’s contract as their manager, just seven months after his appointment.
The club has named Inigo Perez as their new head coach to replace Rodriguez.
The decision comes after Rayo suffered three consecutive losses, with their 2-1 defeat at the hands of 16th-placed Real Mallorca over the weekend extending their winless run to five games.
The club, which is currently ranked 14th in the La Liga standings, announced a statement released on Wednesday, confirming that Rodriguez and his coaching staff have been relieved of their duties.
Inigo Perez, a former Athletic Bilbao midfielder, will now take over as the new head coach of Rayo Vallecano.
Perez began his coaching career as an assistant manager of Rayo during the 2022-23 season, and this is his first top-flight managerial assignment.
Rayo Vallecano’s upcoming fixtures include a home game against league leaders Real Madrid on Sunday, followed by a visit to second-placed Girona on February 26th.
The appointment of Perez as the new head coach comes at a crucial time for the club, and it remains to be seen how he will fare in his new role.
