The Prime Atlantic Squash Tournament witnessed a thrilling sibling rivalry in the U-16 junior boys’ category, as Elisha Daniel and Joshua Daniel battled it out at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Emotions ran high as Elisha took an early lead by winning the first two sets, but Joshua made a strong comeback by winning the next two, leaving the fate of the game on a knife-edge.
The audience was divided, and cheers erupted from both sides.
In the end, Elisha emerged victorious, defeating his younger brother 3-2, in a tightly contested match. Elisha was in tears as he celebrated his win over his sibling. Meanwhile, in the other matches, Shuaib Giwa defeated Muhibudeen Shehu 3-0, and Ibrahim Abudulazeez triumphed over Umar Musa 3-0.
In the U-16 female category, Jennifer Madukojor won 3-1 against Esther Opiye, while Aishat Abuduraheem beat Loveth Balogun 3-0. Mariam Taofeek was trashed 3-0, and 11-year-old Khadijat Durosinlorun lost 3-0 to Precious Wilson.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Joshua expressed his satisfaction with his performance against his brother.
He said, “Usually, the result of our matches is mostly 3-0, 3-1. So, being able to win two sets in best-of-five matches is an improvement on my part. I’d work harder to maintain this form and improve on it. I’m grateful to have gotten to the quarter-finals.”
Joshua also spoke about his upcoming match against Shuaib Giwa, saying, “The semi-final match is a must-win for me. I have played against Shuaib Giwa on four occasions. He won twice, and I have won twice too. This will be a make-or-mar match for me. I intend to give it my all.”
The CRUX NEWS reports that the tournament, which began on October 31, has now reached the quarter-final stage and promises to provide more exciting matches in the coming days.
