President Bola Tinubu has directed his ministers to present their performance reports to Nigerians as part of the first-anniversary celebration of his administration. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that the low-key celebration would feature sectoral media briefings by the 47 federal ministers starting from Thursday, May 23, 2024.
Performance Reports and Assessments
The ministers will present their performance reports based on the deliverables set for them. The reports will be assessed by the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), which has received reports from at least 20 ministries. The assessment will also involve citizen feedback through the Citizens Delivery Tracker app.
Reforms and Achievements
The Tinubu administration has implemented significant reforms to stabilize the economy, reduce inflation, and attract foreign investments. Some of the achievements include:
- Implementing a student loan scheme to improve access to tertiary and vocational education
- Launching a N100bn consumer credit fund to mobilize the manufacturing sector
- Providing N75bn to support small and medium-sized enterprises
- Allocating substantial funds to the agricultural sector to boost productivity and ensure food security
- Initiating a 100,000 renewable housing program across seven states to address the housing deficit
- Directing the purchase of compressed natural gas buses to tackle high transportation costs and promote energy efficiency
Economic Reforms and Foreign Investment
The administration has implemented economic reforms to attract foreign investments, reduce inflation, and boost job creation. Some of the reforms include:
- Unifying multiple exchange rates to create a single, transparent exchange rate
- Implementing diaspora remittances to boost foreign exchange supply
- Providing rebates to non-oil exporters and facilitating access to forex at competitive rates
- Restricting access to forex for the importation of certain items that can be produced locally
Sectoral Briefings and Anniversary Programs
The first-anniversary celebration will feature sectoral briefings by the ministers, starting from Thursday, May 23, 2024. There will be no ceremonies or fanfare to mark the anniversary. The briefings will focus on the achievements and progress made in various sectors, including the economy, security, education, health, and infrastructure.
