An incident at a Chinese supermarket in Abuja has sparked controversy after it allegedly barred Nigerian customers from entering.
Located at the China General Chamber of Commerce on Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road, the supermarket is known for its Chinese food and drinks.
A video has surfaced showing a Nigerian man visibly upset as he is denied entry at the entrance of the supermarket.
According to reports, the supermarket’s management has imposed restrictions specifically on Nigerian patrons, leading to public outcry over the perceived discrimination.
The man in the video decried the policy, highlighting the inconvenience of having to find alternative places to shop for Chinese culinary items and products.
The revelation has caused considerable upset among Nigerians, who have deemed the supermarket’s policy as discriminatory and are urging government action.

@emrayiam reacted; ““Omo, in our own country? Nigerians can’t enter to shop in a Chinese supermarket in Nigeria? And yet they are using Nigerians as workers in the same place? This is an embarrassment of the highest order on the government/citizens of Nigeria. This is arrant nonsense, our government are the cause of this, when they don’t value their own citizen, how would they respect and value us.”

When approached by The Punch, the Senior Public Relations Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Nicholas Utsalo, declined to comment, adhering to the protocol which permits only the Executive Vice Chairman to speak to the media.
He requested access to the video footage and promised that the Commission would investigate the allegations.
